The Eater at the End of the Book
by Barbara L. Barger
I am blessed to have the anointing to teach since 1975. I have taught in many capacities: early childhood, kindergarten, educational coordination, early invention for disability and special needs, early intervention with school for the deaf and the blind, pre-k special education for Horry County Schools, and consultant and trainer with USC for local daycares. I have raised four beautiful children and have six precious grandchildren.
I presently have the privilege of teaching pre-k special-needs children with positive peers at Horry County Schools. Part-time I provide trainings and consult in local daycares. My passion is helping young children become the best they can be. I arrange their surroundings to provide the optimal learning environment.
To understand children, we must hear their words, follow their thoughts, understand their frustrations, and listen to their logic.
No real learning occurs without significant relationships.
The inspiration for this book came from a student in my class. He has the debilitating disease of cystic fibrosis. CF affects the lungs and the digestive system. The challenge to help him increase his calorie consumption became a reality when the threat of a G-tube was mentioned by his doctor. Thanks to his compassionate classmates and the use of reverse psychology, he was inspired to gain weight. Hence the birth of this book!
I hope you enjoy this story as much as the children did and please do not take another bite because there is “an eater at the end of this book.”
