Gray Daze
by Annette Meyer

Gray days differ from blue days.
Gray days lack dazzle.
Blue days are sad days
That often surrender hope.
Gray daze are in between
Reality and a dream.

Green days are welcome with the coming of spring.
Gray days anticipate the shorter days of winter.
Red days imply the heat of summer months.

But gray daze can blur the stream of colored days
To reveal the solidity that lies beneath.

About the Author

My first solo exhibition was at Key Gallery on 57th Street in New York City. Oil paintings of vivid color spread on canvas with a palette knife were in view. They were in contrast to my large tempera painting depicting New York City as the melting pot for world migrants, and it won the citywide Wanamaker competition for preschool children.

Over five hundred of my artworks are in private and public collections, including Brooklyn College, Hunter College, and the Graduate School of CUNY, as well as the College of New Jersey and Art Students League of New York.

More than one hundred of my sketchbooks and paintings are accessible in Special Collections of Hunter College Library. I have slides, a biography, and other materials in the Artistsí file of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
