by Gail Holmes

Shortly after seeing her husband off to work, Alice McElroy falls to the floor from chest pains. Her five-year-old grandson Brandon quickly calls 911, and the paramedics arrive to take her to the hospital. After a second heart attack at the hospital, Alice is forced to stay there for almost two months before being moved to a nursing home nearby.

Alice's husband, Joseph, visits her daily while she is in the nursing home, and he eats his lunches with her. With more complications arising along the way, Joseph learns to be there for his wife in new ways. Sadly, Joseph learns that the cancer he had fought off before had returned. Though his health is deteriorating, he still takes the time to go to the nursing home to have lunch with Alice.

When Alice dies from complications with pneumonia, Joseph begins to feel that he no longer has a purpose in life. He refuses all of his treatments and medications. In the end, he passes away, knowing that he can once again have Lunch with My Wife.
