Nobel Louise encounters many struggles. She struggles with going to live with her parents, her religious belief, and later the men she marries. Her adult struggles are foretold in a dream she has while living with her relatives. Only after she finds herself in her tragedies does she realize that they refer back to the one dream.

She touches on her everyday life and events taking place. She places great emphasis on her spirituality and belief.
