by Millie Cain Zediker

In Spring Break-Away, thirteen-year-old Alex and his brother Erik were taken from their remote village to a children’s home in Kodiak after their dad went down with his fishing boat and their mother was placed in a rehabilitation hospital. Erik is determined to run away from the mission to “live off the land,” taking Alex and a stolen boat with him.

Alex struggles with his brother’s intentions and finds himself facing some tough decisions that call for great courage. He discovers real freedom when he chooses between his brother and doing what he knows to be right.

Millie Cain Zediker, mother of two delightful children, became a housemother to many more at a children’s home in Kodiak, Alaska. Spring Break-Away is a story that comes from her experiences there.
