The Televisionaries: The Untold Story of the World Trade Center as a Crucible for New Communication Ideas
by Joseph Milano

This narrative recalls how the restless engineers who planned the concrete and steel structures of the New York World Trade Center, together with like-minded innovators, generated and fought for new telecommunications and information technologies to improve international commerce and human quality of life.

They combined knowledge, perception of business opportunities, and communications skills, not only to solve evident problems but also to create products and services that never existed before. Despite numerous obstacles and failures, they passionately engaged in the process of innovation, they discovered new business opportunities, and they built key alliances with colleagues.

They were the Televisionaries.

About the Author

Joseph Milano, President of ELAN QUEST, L.L.C., a registered professional engineer, retired from the Port Authority of NY & NJ as Manager of Telecommunications Business Development. In 1977 Milano originated, marketed, and implemented the concept of telecommunications satellite parks (teleports) with fiber optics regional distribution. He has served on the National Research Council Committee on Telecommunications and the Art of Engineering Group at Polytechnic University, and he has served as a consultant to the U.S. Library of Congress.
