by Denise Tulloch

Words, Rhymes, My Soul, Spiritual Bath is a book about love, loss, hope, understanding, and the American dream. Here is Denise Tulloch’s journal for the past ten years, which led her to a new consciousness of self.

“Spiritual Bath” is a cleansing and healing of the heart, the mind, and the soul. It also represents a reconnection with the oneness of God, nature, and love.

“Representing Rhymes” is a play about the everyday struggles of people of color in America—a universal story of dreams and aspirations. It is an American story of freedom and equality told from a rapper’s point of view, as love triumphs over the madness and warfare that occurs in our daily lives.

A natural poet and playwright, Denise Tulloch was in third grade when she won a writing contest.

Getting an education was instilled in her by her parents; however, this took a back seat in her uninspiring intermediate school. When she arrived at John Dewey High School in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York, she experienced a culture shock — but a positive one. The students were encouraged to choose whatever subjects they wanted. She chose fashion, but was also exposed to literature, thus broadening her horizons and as she became aware of the plight of others awakening her to the inequalities between schools. Writing became her mission — her way of doing something to change those inequalities.

She received an associate’s degree in fashion, marketing, and management from Berkeley College in 1994.
